Medical professionals trained in CBRN public health emergency preparedness and response
In order to increase the level of training of the medical system and the specialists involved in the response actions to emergency situations in public health of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear etiology (CBRN), the National Public Health Agency (ANSP) organized the "Training workshop on the preparation and response to chemical risks and threats". The workshop was organized with the support of the Scientific and Technological Center of Ukraine, within the project 88 "Strengthening CBRN medical training and response capabilities in the countries of South-Eastern and Eastern Europe". The workshop was attended by 40 specialists from the Ministry of Health, ANSP, IMSP National Center for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance, IMSP Republican Clinical Hospital "Timofei Moșneaga", IMSP Institute of Emergency Medicine, "Sfînta Treime" Municipal Clinical Hospital, "Nicolae" State University of Medicine and Pharmacy Testemițanu".
The workshop included a series of interactive, theoretical and practical sessions on CBRN threats and public health emergencies. The theoretical knowledge was later reinforced by the application of tabletop exercises, focused on the response actions of the medical system in case of a chemical accident. Their aim was to update the knowledge and skills of the participants, to instruct and train specialists in carrying out the activities related to the decision-making process, the collection and analysis of information, as well as the preparation and coordination of response actions.
The workshop ended with an extensive field exercise, by simulating a chemical accident at an industrial enterprise producing dangerous chemical substances, with the aim of strengthens and develops practical skills of response actions to CBRN threats and public health emergencies, focusing primarily on medical triage, providing urgent medical assistance, evacuation of victims, laboratory investigations, public health measures, etc., with the maximally appropriate imitation of the reality of the circumstances and characteristics of the accident.
